Whilst each of the children have inherited some of her powers, they are only at about half the strength of Cobalt (Except for Black, who, unfortunately, got less ‘Superpowers’ and more ‘Super Intelligence’, but as a result, is insane, as all the intelligence has warped his mind). The villain is, of course, Russian which means he rapes women, is a serial killer and is just an absolutely atrocious guy.The titular hero - Cobalt Blue (which is already a character named in DC universe as a Flash villain) - doesn't do anything for 80% of the story.

Disheartened by the news of Red's defeat, Cassie laments that now only she and three of her siblings remain. The antagonist is the literal embodiment of a dumb, yesteryear macho man with repressive ideologies towards anything progressive. So one day after Cobalt’s death, the Fury of Russia comes to America to kill her offspring and wipe out the country.

Having long been lauded as the most skilled fighter of all the Cobalts, Golden Gary provides a greater challenge for the Fury than his siblings had, with their fight lasting 30 minutes and seeing Gary crack the Fury's visor. If you love Superhero stories, the story of the Underdog, a good action-story, you will absolutely love this – it is just brilliant.Since Seven Ancient Wonders in 2005, Matthew's novels have been the biggest selling new fiction title released in Australia for that year. Cobalt Blue is a very interesting reimagining of the cold war, that seem incredibly timed given current events. The story features Cassie Cassowitz - aka the eponymous Cobalt Blue - as the main protagonist as she steps up to become the superhero America needs. The first edition hardbacks of the novel features coloured text in some sections, which has plot relevance.
