About this deal

But can she solve this case alone, or will she need double the detectives to solve double the murder? Murder at the Museum is a children’s humorous middle-grade story that is filled to the brim with exciting moments.

Sounds like the world’s best detective needs to make an appearance and discover what happened and who the murderer/thief is. We are first introduced to Bonnie Montgomery when she visits the local museum with her Grampa Banks. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Children will love the accompanying black-and-white illustrations by Claire Powell and they fit perfectly with the short chapters, each one leaving you wanting more. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. The dialogue even has the rhythm of Poirot and the whole book is enhanced by Powell’s equally fun illustrations. In exploring this we are led through a satisfying murder mystery, with a cast of colourful characters, and amusing interactions. Add in seagulls, scones and an interfering scarlett macaw for a story you won’t be able to put down.

Bonnie and Grandpa Banks are visiting the Hornville Museum – the oldest building in Widdlington – when there’s a dreadful scream and they are plunged into darkness. When a dead body and an empty display case are discovered, in a room which is locked from the inside, Monsieur Bonbon springs into action: taking notes, collecting clues and investigating suspects. But, dead body aside, this is a fun story and I think a lot of mature children would enjoy reading it. There are many reasons I could recommend this title, the illustrations from Claire Powell which bring it to life […] The way that Alasdair Beckett-King appears to so effortlessly be able to make me laugh at the hilarious dialogue and story line. The reader will take as much pleasure looking at them as the illustrator Claire Powell clearly had in drawing them.

Bonnie Montgomery) is a masterful moustachioed detective who picks up the slack of the Widdlington police.

When there was a dead body right at the beginning of this story, I wondered about its suitability for children! She has lots of skills, plenty that would rival Sherlock Holmes, and more than a few one-liners to go with them. Can Bonnie, I mean Monsieur Bonbon and Grampa Banks work out what happened and find the guilty party? The Montgomery Bonbon series is such a brilliantly comical series that I genuinely believe is equally enjoyable for both middle grade readers and adults alike.

Montgomery Bonbon leaves no stone, or onion, unturned, as we know from Montgomery Bonbon: Murder at the Museum. Almost a mix of the Malamander series by Thomas Taylor and Alex T Smith’s penguin detective, readers will enjoy the word play as Bonnie and her grandfather arrive at Odde Island, with its Leerie Lighthouse.

Bonnie is on vacation at Odde Island with her Grampa, when she hears of the death at the lighthouse. The characterisation is brilliant, Alasdair has created an original and intriguing cast of characters who you can't help but love. Joining the ranks of stand-ups writing novels for children is this author, who invents a quirky young heroine, and thrusts her right into a locked-room mystery.
