About this deal

The red hood has often been given great importance in many interpretations, with a significance from the dawn to blood. The redness of the hood, which has been given symbolic significance in many interpretations of the tale, was a detail introduced by Perrault. This, the presumed original version of the tale was written for the late seventeenth-century French court of King Louis XIV.

There are so many picturebooks based on Little Red Riding Hood, but this has a nice twist: encouraging the wolf to change his own ending by linking to power of books and stories. The tale has been interpreted as a puberty rite, stemming from a prehistoric origin (sometimes an origin stemming from a previous matriarchal era). But that is where the similarity to the old fairytale ends, because Little Red Reading Hood is a lot more savvy than her counterpart and knows how stories can be mixed-up and changed. A 'Red Riding Hood' retelling where our little red girl is a bookworm, her grandmother is substituted for a librarian, and the wolf - a stand-in for any bad person - becomes a better person by reading, too?Such tellings bear some similarity to the "animal bridegroom" tales, such as Beauty and the Beast or The Frog Prince, but where the heroines of those tales revert the hero to a prince, these tellings of Little Red Riding Hood reveal to the heroine that she has a wild nature like the hero's. Lucy has loved reading and listening to poetry from a young age and has turned her passion into writing picture book stories with quirky characters and irresistible rhythms. Many revisionist retellings focus on empowerment and depict Little Red Riding Hood or the grandmother successfully defending herself against the wolf. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! The underlying message of being able to change our own destinies/stories is really powerful and would be great for sparking discussion.

In the Grimms' version, the wolf leaves the house and tries to drink out of a well, but the stones in his stomach cause him to fall in and drown (similarly to the story of " The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids"). An inspiring new take on the much-loved fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood, which celebrates the magic and joy of reading books and visiting libraries. The theme also appears in the story of the life of Saint Margaret, wherein the saint emerges unharmed from the belly of a dragon, and in the epic "The Red Path" by Jim C.Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. But what’s even better than the clever story twist, is the fact this is a book that openly celebrates reading books and how great the stories are within them. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. I found the rhyme in this a little uneven from time to time, but I am not sure if that isn't just due to pronunciation differences between American and British English. The girl is saved, but not by the huntsman; when the wolf tries to eat her, its mouth is burned by the golden hood she wears, which is enchanted.

Whitten wrote a retelling inspired by "Little Red Riding Hood" named "For the wolf", where the character named Red is sacrificed to the Wolf as part of tradition. When the girls' mother goes out, the tigress comes to the girls' house and pretends to be their aunt, asking to come in. The Kelly Family's " The Wolf" (1994) is inspired by the tale, warning the children that there's a Wolf out there. Letitia Elizabeth Landon's poem Little Red Riding Hood in The Court Journal, 1835 is subtitled Lines suggested by the engraving of Landseer's Picture. Aquí la caperucita no va a casa de su abuelita sino a la biblioteca a devolver un cuento, y se pierde por leer en el camino. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

The girl tells the tigress that she will let her eat her, but first, she would like to feed her some fruit from the tree. The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sickly grandmother ( wine and cake depending on the translation). And in another version the wolf is pushed into the fire, while he is preparing the flesh of the grandmother to be eaten by the girl. This is how every fairy tale should be written, with the protagonist - regardless of gender - saving themselves from a life of solitude and boredom. Highly recommend this book for children around my daughter's age, especially if they need a little encouragement to fall in love with reading again.
