About this deal

Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Probert's debut graphic novel is both inventive and familiar, with unique characters in a fresh fantasy world embarking on a classic quest.

Bea gets overwhelmed easily and is always 'what ifs', where Cad jumps right in and does things to know the outcome in the end. Bea's grandfather leaves out of nowhere and worried that he won't come back, she sets off after him. I just didn't like the way the shapes fit on the page, and how they were supposed to look 3d-ish but it looked strange. Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc.For fans of Amulet and middle grade readers who love sweeping worlds like Star Wars, the first book of the Lightfall series introduces Bea and Cad, two unlikely friends who get swept up in an epic quest to save their world from falling into eternal darkness. Kazu Kibuishi, bestselling author of Amulet Probert’s debut graphic novel is both inventive and familiar, with unique characters in a fresh fantasy world embarking on a classic quest. Left with only enough inheritance to patch and repair the exterior of the house—and with the school’s dismal standardized test scores as a final straw—Greg’s mom steers the family toward moving, opening up house-hunting and house-selling storylines (and devastating loyal Rowley, who doesn’t want to lose his best friend).

Bea spesso viene avvolta da una nebbia scura che la immobilizza totalmente, non è un potere particolare, non è una scelta grafica, sono attacchi di panico.Desperate for a solution, Bea and Cad seek out the help of a water spirit known as Lorgon, whose ancient wisdom may help them find a way to take down Kest and save Irpa from utter destruction. The world-building also stands out enough to lend intrigue to an otherwise straightforward quest storyline. However, when he mysteriously vanishes, Bea finds a note he leaves behind and with the help of her new friend Cadwallader, they decide to team-up to find him, making sure he hasn’t gotten into any danger.

Booklist Probert’s debut combines engaging fantasy elements: mysterious enemies, fateful responsibility, and death-defying action against a variety of foes. The story doesn’t end in this volume, and I think I’d like to continue, if only for the beautiful illustrations. As the duo continue their quest the reader learns a little more about Alfrid alongside a larger narrative about a mythical bird and the sun, which does feel rather rushed by the final act, though hints at what’s to unfold in the sequel. But when the two arrive home, the Pig Wizard is nowhere to be found—all that’s left is the Jar of Endless Flame and a mysterious note. Perfect for middle grade fans of Amulet and Avatar the Last Airbender, Lightfall: Shadow of the Bird is another breathtaking journey into the magical world of Irpa, where epic battles and powerful creatures abound. Je ne pense pas nécessairement repenser très souvent à ce roman graphique mais il m’a tout de même fait passer un incroyable moment! Beatrice lives in a beautiful part of her world with her grandfather, who’s a pig wizard, who makes and sells potions, while Beatrice sources out different plants for the concoctions.
