About this deal

The premise involved several members of The Commitments pairing with new band members before going on tour in the United States. He has the archetypal Dublin bowises as friends, the lad who can get you anything from the back of a truck, the grumpy auldfella and the best mate who he shares more with than his wife. Reviewers praised the music, performances and humour, while criticism was occasionally aimed at the pacing and Parker's direction. Tracy and Linda Rabbitte – the two youngest children, twin girls, who frequently behave mischievously, provoking the ire of the parents.

Martin Doyle, "Roddy Doyle adds his Two Pints worth to marriage equality Yes vote campaign", The Irish Times, 1 May 2015. Doyle was given creative freedom by the BBC over the adaptation of The Snapper, for which he wrote the screenplay. It's a short story with a lot of page space afforded to the act of verbalising the songs the band is singing.Had seen the film "The Commitments" years before, but getting into the dialect of the reading and the trilogy itself was a real treat. The dialogue is brilliant, and hilarious -- again, not having been, I don't know if people there actually talk like this, but if they don't, they should.

It really encapsulates family life, and gives us a wonderful father daughter relationship between Jimmy Sr. I'm lopsided in my praise of this series because as a Dublin man with a gurrier of a Da I felt like I was reading excerpts from my own life. In "The Snapper", Sharon Rabbite's pregnancy sparks off intense speculation among her friends and family, but she is determined to reveal the identity of the father in her own time. I must confess that the whole Rabbitte family is a highly unwholesome, comical, yet tender hearted clan. If you have already been in Dublin, the reading is a way to back there and remember everything you saw and felt.I laughed out loud through all three books, welled up a number of times, and recognized my own Irish family -- sometimes painfully -- on every page.
